Ski Resorts Now Open For The 2022 Season

Ski Resorts Open 2022

Ski Resorts Now Open Across The Alps

Resorts in Europe are having one of the best starts to the season for the past decade! The snow has been falling steadily over the last few weeks and some areas are even struggling to keep up with the huge snow quantities. This sets the scene for an incredible start to the winter, and some resorts (such as Avoriaz) have even brought their opening date forward to make the most of the great conditions.

With bluebird weather now in the forecast, areas like Val Thorens - which is already open - have seen some unbelievable skiing and snowboarding days, with fresh snow and bright blue skies. December 3rd 2022 marks the opening day for many European ski resorts, with others following the week after on December 10th 2022. Keep reading to find out which resorts are already open and which are opening soon!

If you see a resort you like and would like to book for some early season skiing, please call us on 02380 206971 or enquire online to make the most of the great December conditions!

Tignes - France

Opening Day: Saturday 19th November

Ski Resorts Open 2022

Tignes is often the earliest resort in France to open, its Grand Motte glacier offers very high altitude skiing and cold conditions. Part of the Espace Killy ski area, Tignes is one of the most snow-sure places in the Apls and a great spot to bag some early season action. The majority of the Espace Killy region is now open to explore, with the snowline heading further down the mountain everyday. Tignes looks set for fabulous conditions during the Christmas and New Year period.

Val Thorens - France

Opening Day: Saturday 26th November

Ski Resorts Open 2022

Val Thorens, the highest altitude resort in The 3 Valleys, opened to the public in late November. So far they've seen fresh snow on corduroy pistes, followed by all-day sunshine. VT is the first in The 3 Valleys to open, with Courchevel following on December 3rd and Meribel on December 10th. Val Thorens has notoriously cold temperatures due to its altitude, this does wonders for keeping the snow fresh. Now is a great time to check out one of SkiWeekends' favourite resorts.

Saalbach - Austria

Opening Day: Friday 2nd December

Ski Resorts Open 2022

Saalbach is brand new for SkiWeekends this year and we're very excited about it. Part of one of the largest ski areas in Austria and home to some legendary apres, this is a great resort to check out if you're looking for somewhere new to explore. A member of the Skicircus region, Saalbach offers extremely diverse skiing with plenty to see on your short break.

St Anton - Austria

Opening Day: Friday 2nd December

Ski Resorts Open 2022

St Anton is known the world over for good reason. Incredible scenery, architecture and an unbeatable atmosphere, St Anton ticks so many boxes it should be on everyone's list. A resort steeped in history and tradition, the conditions are looking fantastic for their opening day, you might even find some powder stashes!

Avoriaz - France

Opening Day: Saturday 3rd December

Ski Resorts Open 2022

Originally set to open on December 10th, the recent bounty of snowfall have allowed Avoriaz to bring their opening day forward by one week! There's only a select amount of terrain available to ride, but a big bonus to anyone with a ski pass for the season. Check out some of our amazing chalets and hotels in Avoriaz and get shredding this December.

Verbier - Switzerland

Opening Day: Saturday 3rd December

Ski Resorts Open 2022

Verbier is home to some stunning freeride terrain, apres bars and magnificent hotels. Their slopes have received more snow than most in Austria and they're set up for a fine opening weekend. With plentiful high altitude runs, Verbier is a great bet for some early season skiing or snowboarding. A must visit in our books.

Val d'Isere - France

Opening Day: Saturday 3rd December

Ski Resorts Open 2022

The other half of Tignes' Espace Killy region, Val d'Isere is one of the prettiest resorts in the French Alps. Here you'll find fabulous off piste areas and pristine corduroy runs through the trees. Party the afternoon away the La Folie Douce or find a deckchair in the sunshine. Val d'Isere caters for any level of skier and is well worth an early season visit.

La Plagne/Les Arcs - France

Opening Day: Saturday 10th December

Ski Resorts Open 2022

La Plagne and Les Arcs make up the sprawling Paradiski ski area, one of the largest in the world. With views of the Mont Blanc massif and high altitude pistes, the conditions here usually fare well in early and late season. Connected via a double decker cable car, the Vanoise Express, Paradiski offers an immense level of different terrain. Snow has been falling here throughout November and December, and the resorts look ready for a great season.
