BASI Level 1 for Ski Instructors

You must possess competent parallel skiing skills to undertake this course.

The course covers:

• Safeguarding children module
• First aid certificate
• Technical and teaching training & assessment module
• 35 logged hours of ski school experience
• Understanding how bookings are taken and how people are selected into different standards
• Shadowing experienced instructors delivering lessons
• Delivering lessons as per the constraints for the Level 1 Licence
• Understanding how customer satisfaction is assessed & how dissatisfied customers are dealt with
• Taking part in and understanding in-house staff training for instructors
• Understanding how snowsports schools maintain safety standards & maintain their currency of good practice
• Understanding the risk assessment process that snowsport schools & instructors take
• Understand accident & first aid procedures including accident reporting

The Exam

The Alpine Level 1 course/exam is a 5-day training and assessment course in which the following subjects are covered and assessed:

• Skiing safely
• Planning, conducting & evaluating an instructing session
• Participating in an accident & emergency activity
• Knowing and understanding how to improve personal skiing & instructing performance

You will also be expected to have a good understanding of:

• The central theme & beyond
• The FIS rules of conduct
• The principles of ski teaching
• The structure of snowsport in the UK
• The roles of snowsport agencies in the UK
• Marketing & promoting snowsport in the UK
• Dealing with accidents & emergencies

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be certified to teach snow park skills up to and including intermediate skill levels.
