Engelberg is steeped in rich history, being founded in 1120 A.D., something which is highlighted by one of the main attractions, the Benedictine Monastery of Engelberg. The monastery can be accessed by guided tours where you can learn more about both the history of the monastery and the town itself. Located in the German-speaking part of Switzerland, Engelberg resort is not only steeped with an incredible heritage, but also incredible views!
The resort of Engelberg is home to the highest suspension bridge in Europe, which offers some breath-taking views all around. Engelberg is also home to the world’s highest watch shop, but one thing not to miss is the glacier cave. Possibly Engelberg's biggest claim-to-fame (at least on a mechanical level!) is the world’s first revolving gondola! Check out all 360 degrees of alpine scenery on your 5minute trip to the summit at 3,020m.
If this isn’t enough for you, then there is also the opportunity to have a crack at night skiing or enjoy snowshoeing or winter hiking in one of the many trails marked on the piste map – a great way to quietly take in the stunning mountain scenery. If however, like most of us here at Ski Weekends, you would rather try out the local cuisine and check that the beer is up to scratch, you are sure to find something to suit. If you are looking where to eat in Engelberg you will be spoilt for choice with a variety of cuisine on offer, and plenty of après bars to try out before your ski holiday comes to an end!

SKI AREA OVERVIEW
Engelberg ski resort is seen somewhat as the jewel in Central Switzerland's crown. The resort, which has been open for over 100 years now, is perfect for intermediate to advanced level skiers so there is plenty of terrain to keep everyone busy on a group ski holiday. Don’t worry though beginners, as there are two separate areas and 25 kilometres worth of slope for you to hone your skills initially! Typically a quiet resort, you will never find yourself queuing for too long as you get the chance to explore the 82 kilometres of slopes Engelberg has to offer. Engelberg is also a hub for freeride skiers and snowboarders, mainly due to the vast amount of off-piste skiing that it has to offer, which can be easily accessed with a local guide, but this could also be due to the fantastic 600cm average snowfall each year!
Engelberg offers high altitude skiing, being the only glacier skiing location in Central Switzerland. With a vertical descent of over 2000 metres, some beautiful tree runs lower down the mountain and many blue and red runs on offer with several black runs to chance your arm (or skis!), you are sure to keep yourself busy on your Engelberg Ski Weekend.
There are also plenty of non-ski solutions to get involved in, including snowshoeing or visiting the Igloo village, not to mention the 35 kilometres of cross-country skiing to tackle as well as 7 kilometres of toboggan runs to slip and slide your way down on the family ski holiday! Our personal favourite activity? Well, it has to be the snowXpark which is where you can ride electrically powered snowmobiles around a circuit!
