ISCHGL - THE RESORT
Nestled in the Paznaun Valley in the Austrian state of Tyrol, Ischgl is positioned just south of St Anton on the Swiss border and shares its ski area with the Swiss ski resort, Samnaun. Its fantastic geographical location means that, should you want to venture further afield, you can reach St Anton by car, and many other areas are accessible via a fast and efficient ski bus. Whilst still compact and convenient, Ischgl town is sizeable, but the village has managed to retain a quaint alpine charm; mainly due to the architecture, which consists of pretty and traditional chalet-style buildings and predominantly traffic-free streets. Furthermore, the village ambience is quintessentially Austrian with a vibrant après ski scene to match, that often lasts from the moment that the lifts close until the early hours.
In fact, Ischgl’s party reputation is world famous, having been described by many as having one of the best après ski scenes in the Alps - “A snowbound Ibiza”. Due to its widely reputable apres ski scene, Ischgl has attracted some pretty big performers in the past, including Elton John, Muse, Deep Purple, The Beach Boys and many others. Ischgl has far more to offer than just a lively nightlife though; the town is bursting with things to do and see – shoppers will have plenty of variety whilst foodies will be quite at home; with a diverse mix of cafes and restaurants you’ll be certain to find a suitable spot to satisfy all the taste buds in your group.
Besides skiing, winter activities are also in abundance; including snowshoe hiking, winter hiking, tobogganing under the floodlights and ice skating (to name just a few). We can say with absolute certainty that Ischgl is a resort suitable for groups of all sizes and preferences; with so much going on, it’s impossible not to enjoy yourself!
