Megève has 34 mountain restaurants serving up an array of dishes in beautiful rustic settings. It is said to be home to some of the best mountain restaurants in France so this is the perfect resort for people who love their food. The majority of mountain restaurants in Megève are full-service so you may struggle to find the self-serve restaurants which can be so prevalent in other resorts.
The prices here are relatively expensive in comparison to most ski resorts so if you are looking for value then you might have to shop around.
In town there are plenty of restaurants to choose from, many serving up French cuisine but you will find a few other options as well. Whilst surrounded by prestigious gastronomic restaurants, there are more affordable establishments too. But if you want to treat yourself in Megève there is a three Michelin starred restaurant called ‘Restaurant etoile Flocons de Sel’ which more than lives up to its reputation.
PLACES FOR LUNCH
At the top of the Rochebrune ski lift is the Super Megève restaurant. This restaurant has a large panoramic terrace with beautiful views of Mont Blanc and is recommended for its outside grill. This is also a great restaurant for groups with non-skiers/snowboarders due to the ease of access to the restaurant via the Rochebrune cable car. Another place in the Rochebrune area is a sandwich bar called La Caboche and Le Terrasse Café which features some good Savoyard favourites and burgers, it has WIFI access too.
Le Cintra is an upmarket place famed for its seafood dishes. L’Alpage, located in the ‘Le Fer a Cheval’ hotel serves up some lovely Savoyard specialities. Set in an old, traditional wooden chalet is a little place called Le Sapin Chaud which is a lovely place to stop for some lunch. Le Grenier de Megève is another spot that is recommended. It’s small but traditional and has a set menu for 19 euros – just make sure you book in advance!
For a welcoming, authentic wooden Alpine chalet head over to the Auberge Bonneval. Located between Megève and La Giettaz, it has a range of Savoyard specialities.
PLACES FOR DINNER
Restaurant etoile Flocons de Sel is a three Michelin Starred gastronomic restaurant in Megève. Here you can expect truly unique gourmet cuisine with an intimate and elegant atmosphere. At the other end of the price scale to the Flocons de Sel is the Flocons Village. It offers similar excellent food in a mountain style bistro but is very reasonably priced by comparison.
For traditional Savoyard food head to Le Vieux Megève, it gets very busy here so it is best to book ahead. For great pizza and traditionally cooked Savoy specialities, head to The Bistro Savoyard. For good value and excellent food, head to Le Prieure. You will find it next to the church and is a real favourite due to its good and friendly service.
Bar Centrale is a restaurant perfect for families and groups. Located in the main square, here you can enjoy a pizza, burger or even try the fondue. Definitely worth booking over busy periods.
