Meribel mottaret - the resort
Developed back in 1972, Mottaret (better known as Meribel Mottaret) offers convenient skiing to its guests and actually offers faster access to the top of the Courchevel valley than from any of the Courchevel resorts. You also get great access to Val Thorens due to being set right in the heart of the 3 Valley’s, so if it is skiing you are looking for then this is definitely one of the best resorts for it! With the majority of the accommodation ski-in/ski-out or very close to a piste, getting to the lifts or meeting points in the morning is as easy as you would expect in this snowsure resort.
Known as more of a family resort, Mottaret can be split into two areas. The first being Le Laitlelet which is the larger area built back when the resort was first developed in 1972. This is the Western side of the resort and extends from the centre of Mottaret at 1700m all the way to Le Hameau at around 1800m, these are connected via a free lift called ‘Chalets’. The other area is the smaller Le Chatelet on the Eastern side, so you can expect a good amount of sunshine throughout the day! Le Chatelet was developed in anticipation for the 1992 Olympics and serves as a gateway to the Vanoise nature reserve.
Whilst not being a huge resort, Meribel Mottaret still has a lot to offer to its guests. With everything within walking distance and some charming buildings, you will not be let down by its alpine charm! Being a purpose built resort, Mottaret has managed to keep the development in keeping with its surroundings with no high rise, or concrete buildings allowed meaning that it still blends in quite well with its forest setting and wooden clad buildings!
Just 3km away from Meribel Centre, Meribel Mottaret is very easy to access with a free bus service linking well between the two, which means you are still able to dine out in Meribel if you wanted, or access places like the Olympic Park for some swimming or even a bit of bowling. But rest assured, there is still plenty to do in Mottaret!
