PISTE MAP

SKI Area

  • The quickest access to the Arlberg ski area – ski the fresh groomers before anyone else on the mountain!

  • More off piste than you can shake a probe at! Powder hounds’ paradise for both skiers and snowboarders.

  • Thanks to a series of new and improved lifts, the Arlberg area is now one of the largest interconnected ski areas in Austria.

  • With over 300km’s of pisted runs and over 110 lifts, the Arlberg area has some superb skiing/snowboarding for all levels and plenty of it.

  • At 1800m St Christoph is accustomed to big snowfalls and is very snow sure – helpful for a ski-in/ski-out resort!

St Christoph is in an ideal location in the Arlberg ski area which has fairly recently been connected with Lech and Zurs to make it one of the largest connected resorts in Austria with over 300 kilometres of pisted runs. Add to that the abundance of off-piste that is about, and you are very well set for a ski trip of a lifetime! Undoubtedly one of the best things about St Christoph is that it is ski-in/ski-out, but, due to being at 1800m (around 500m higher than neighbouring St Anton) you can access the slopes before anyone from St Anton can get onto the mountains – this makes it the perfect spot to stay ready to attack all that the Arlberg has to throw at you!

One of the best things about Arlberg area is that it covers all bases in terms of terrain. It doesn’t matter whether you are making your first ever turns on the Maiensee nursery slopes in St Christoph, too (intentionally!) dropping cliffs around the Valluga area – you will be well looked out for. This for us is perfect given how this is St Anton and you may find yourself partially glazed over after some of that legendary Austrian après ski (we have all been there) and are looking to just cruise around and take in some of the special scenery that the Arlberg offers its guests.

Take a look below at our breakdown to find out more information relevant to your ability:

Advanced

Well known to advanced skiers, the Arlberg needs no introduction. You know exactly what to expect before you arrive, and that is normally waist deep powder and some captivating black runs and ski routes that will really test those ski legs out! If you are heading out there this season, why not try out the runs over at Valluga? Let us know how you got on!

Intermediate:

An abundance of varied terrain to keep even the most stringent intermediate occupied for months. The St Christoph (blue 64) blue run is the way to make it back into St Christoph, but you will find some nice slopes around the Galzig and Gampen areas – there are some great runs to cruise down into St Anton itself. Catch these first thing in the morning for a glorious ski down in the best conditions, you know what they say – the early bird catches the worm!

Beginner:

St Christoph isn’t the most ideal spot for beginners, simply because there is only one real teaching area for people up there which is on the Maienseelift’s and the Maiensee slopes (blue 65). This is a great spot to learn, but the ability to progress on from here may falter depending on your confidence – not all of the blue runs in the surrounding areas from St Christoph are particularly easy for skiers heading out on their first ski trip.

Snowboarder:

There is plenty to do for snowboarders in the area here which is why it attracts so many people each year! For the freestylers there is a terrain park over by Rendl which has both half and quarter pipes – this area is also great for intermediate snowboarders due to its wide slopes. For the advanced snowboarders, the Arlberg is your oyster…

Off-piste*

St Anton is known for many things, probably one of the main things is the (not après…) off piste which has the ability to make you look like a hero and then back to zero in a matter of turns! There are plenty of high altitude powder runs with some great lines to be had down towards Stuben – but we recommend that you get someone to show you the ropes first!

* Ski Weekends strongly advise that off-piste skiing should only be undertaken when in the company of a professional ski instructor or guide.
